In 1872, the mansion referred to as Paxton Manor was integrated the northeast part of Leesburg, Virginia and known at that time as Carlheim. It had been built by Pennsylvania resident Charles Paxton, after whom a home is now named. The dwelling is an impressive 20,000 square feet and it was included on the National Register of Historic Places by 1979.

Paxton Manor does allow official ghost hunters and paranormal research teams to go to. These teams can register for overnight access. Guests can also register to keep the night along with professional ghost hunting teams. Together with the haunted house props and setup scares aside, the property is well-known internet marketing a truly haunted location, and this is a primary reason why the haunted house events and tours are really terrifying. The site does make it very clear that visitors must enter completely inside their own risk.
