There aren’t any compulsory vaccinations for those traveling to Tajikistan though you should be up-to-date with Typhoid, Tetanus, Polio and Hepatitis A. Malaria can be found in certain parts of Tajikistan which is why we advise you consult your local GP or travel clinic regarding the proper vaccinations and preventative treatments.
When you travel with us, you’ll often meet local people Each with distinct customs and traditions. We ask you to be respectful and considerate towards the local population. You can always rely on your tour-leaders or guides to help you.
The first thing you should know about travelling in Central Asia is that most regions, especially the towns and cities have a much more laid-back attitude to Islam as compared to their counterparts to the south of Afghanistan and Pakistan. It is an Muslim region, so it’s essential to be careful in certain places. Although both genders can wear shorts or T-shirts in cities, they should not wear long sleeves or T-shirts. But, those who visit places of worship should wear pants that do not go below the knees and wear tops that cover shoulders. Females should also be wearing their headscarf. The tour takes us to remote locations that aren’t normally frequented by tourists. Locals tend to dress modestly, so it is highly likely that you’ll feel more comfortable wearing conservative clothing.
Language and Religion
Tajik is the official language spoken in Tajikistan. Russian is still extensively used to communicate and for business.
The majority of the people follow Sunni Islam, with the minority of them following Russian Orthodox, Catholicism, Buddhism and Judaism.
Food and beverages
The food on this tour tends to focus heavily on soups, meat and potatoes. In the more remote and higher altitude places vegetables can be hard to find. However, there’s a lot of dried fruit and nuts you can taste.
The alcohol choices are limited to beer or vodka. If you want to try other drinks – like Scotch or Gin should buy it at no cost and carry it with them. It isn’t easy to find mixer drinks , such as tonic water.
