If Music Be the Food of Love, how will you plan it to your Wedding?
Congratulations, you get married….this is the great part!
Yes, these days you have to plan for the marriage Date, Dress, Wedding Flowers, Ceremony Location, Venue, Rings, Menus, Guests List, Seating Arrangements, Invitations, Honeymoon Plans, Limo’s, and so on. Which is the not-so-great part!
The wedding ceremony Planning experience could be both uplifting, and frustrating. It may often think that, “the best, and worst of times”, to paraphrase Charles Dickens. You can find, a lot of decisions, and thus short amount of time.
This document will address Wedding Music Entertainment, assist you in your decision process, and hopefully reduce some stress.
Wedding Music Entertainment,…or not?
Unlike other aspects, Wedding Music Entertainment (Bands, DJ’s, Musicians) is not a “must have”, to your Special occasion. It can be truly a possibility.
So, to begin with, does one desire Music of any type, on your Wedding?
If, “no”, you have one less decision to make, stop reading… resulting in that Dress!
If, “yes”, we have a little work to do: are you wanting music for your:
A) Ceremony
B) Cocktail Hour
C) Reception
A, B and C,….or maybe A,B, or C….. (there are nine possibilities here)
Of course, if under consideration any of these, are you wanting Live Music (Musicians, Bands), or Recorded (DJ) Music?
Your wedding day Ceremony
The wedding Ceremony, will undoubtedly be one of the most personal a part of that unique Day.
Live Musicians are preferred for Wedding Ceremonies. They improve the ambiance and emotional setting. And being human, in contrast to recorded Music, they are able to react quickly to alterations in the planet.
For instance, as Marriage ceremony members, enter and leave, a ceremony area, Live Musicians can very naturally alter the music tempo (speed, feel, etc.), to maintain in sync with changing walking steps (older folks usually walk slower, and young folks – particularly if nervous, walk faster). Watching an accomplished Musician effortlessly perform an expert, is really an art form alone. (experienced DJ’s can also make this happen electronically with recorded music, however it just doesn’t feel as, “natural”).
Therefore, if you desire Ceremony Music of any sort, my suggestion, is Live Musicians (either solo, duo, or trio). And rather than classic organ, you might like to try something different….flute, harp, piano, violin, cello, horn, or guitar.
Also, if someone else in your family members have musical talent, of course invite them to carry out a song…it will become a lot more memorable experience for you, them, plus your guests.
Your Wedding Cocktail Hour
Wedding Cocktail Hours usually are in the least thought regarding music planning. Why? Well to start with, you (the Wedding party) are typically not there (for most of it anyway). On this occasion (immediately after wedding ceremony Ceremony) is normally allotted for Picture taking using the Photographer….usually in a different area. That is certainly all fine for the Wedding party, fresh fruits concerning your guests!
Either way people who attended wedding ceremony Ceremony, and those that would not, the most popular meeting ground, pending your return from Picture taking, could be the Cocktail Hour area. It is here that they will, try an hors d’ oeuvre, use a drink, and start to mingle.
Now I may certainly be a bit biased, but there is nothing at all inviting, than soothing music as one enters a place…it generates a certain, welcoming, ambiance. It sets the climate. It says on your guests, “yes, seriously in, there exists a celebration happening in here”!
The kind of Cocktail Hour Music Entertainment if you undertake for the guests?
Live Bands, unless a small Classical, or Jazz trio, may be, “overkill”, for any Cocktail Hour. A Solo Musician or DJ can be more affordable.
We’ve attended great Cocktail Hours with Musicians, and great Cocktail Hours with DJ’s. It is again, very subjective, however, many people feel Musicians, tend to give a certain, “Elegance”…
An important factor to remember is niagra will be the “prep time” on your Reception. Until they have satisfied their hunger for food, drink and talk, most guests are not going to be in a partying mood initially. This is fine, because remember, you aren’t there! So in selecting Cocktail Hour Music, be it Live Musicians or perhaps a DJ, ensure that is stays, “low-key”, now…nice background, easy listening melodies, no head-banging sounds, no less than, not even.
Your Wedding Reception
The Bridal Party has finished picture taking, you and your guests have loosened up with a glass or two or two, so allow the Reception begin!
From your favorite first dance, prior to the Party’s end, you certainly want whether DJ or Live Band supplying the Musical Entertainment.
Although some DJ’s are fantastic at getting parties really hopping, Bands tend to be more dynamic. And let’s face it, nothing appears like Live Music. However, Bands can be quite expensive. Especially, if there are more than four members…you happen to be talking within the “upper” thousands dollar range.
In addition to being more affordable (typically about 20 -25% the buying price of a Band), some DJ’s also provide Karaoke Services, where guests can sing together with songs on stage, and have their, “moment of fame” (there exists a least one “ham” at each and every party). It is usually lots of fun for all those, and makes for some memorable photos.
So in conclusion, while both Bands and DJ’s are ideal for Reception Music, should your affordability is tight, DJ’s are much more affordable.
The best way to select your own music Entertainment
From this point, you cash in on almost all of the Music Entertainment decisions for the Wedding. Your next step is actual Entertainer selection (Musicians, Bands, or DJ’s).
Fortunately in your case, (not so for Entertainers), legislation of supply vs demand is within your favor…there are lots of to pick from.
Obviously, when possible, concept, and/or hear, the Entertainers perform live, perhaps while attending a golf club, restaurant, or friend’s Wedding.
Should you enjoy their performance, don’t be shy about approaching them; most Entertainers are incredibly friendly people, and definately will welcome your inquiry. Ask for a business card, of course, if they will be willing (or can be found) to perform on your event. Also many Musicians typically have their CD’s available, for either a nominal charge, or sometimes complimentary.
Next to actually hearing Entertainers in person, recommendations from friends and family can be quite helpful. You should be a bit skeptical, if a friend, of the friend, of a friend, includes a brother-in-law, that sometimes plays the tuba (or whatever). Ask how long they are performing, and request names of contemporary performance venues. Also request a video or audio file of these work.
Not to mention, there is always Google. Like everything else, search for Musicians, or Bands or DJ’s in your town, and get many sites. The problem is that every Entertainer’s site, will mention how wonderful, great, and spectacular they’re; every site sets out to look the same. Exactly how do you choose?
