U.S. VETERAN Discovers Enthusiasm FOR COSMETOLOGY DURING MILITARY SERVICE

Every hairstylist remember the moment they became captivated by hair and the love for creativity which it inspires. The storyline wasn’t any different for U.S. Marine Corps veteran Kristyl Rodrigues who discovered her adoration for hair while enrolled at Bellus Academy’s school of cosmetology in Poway, California. There Kristyl was studying cosmetology and pursuing a professional beauty education. In her story, there is a valuable message that can be shared. “It doesn’t matter where you begin or the method that you begin. I wish to be able to spark that passion into people where we’re causeing this to be industry ten times better, we’re gaining knowledge from our background we’re continuing that legacy,” shared Kristyl. We have found her story.

First: Inspiration Can Strike Anywhere
Kristyl joined the Marine Corps in 2014 and was enlisted in the age of 19. Her first duty station was in Okinawa, Japan, followed by an area operation in Korea. Weekly during Kristyl’s period in Korea, a barber would check out the site and give haircuts on the Marines. Then again, this happened: “I what food was in a tent doing my own hair,” shares Kristyl. “I would certainly do shape ups and line ups for me personally, nothing too crazy, after i stood a Marine Sergeant approach me and ask me for the haircut. I needed never cut anybody’s hair before on the other hand jumped directly into it and he ended up loving it…and together with his outreach and leadership, literally in the morning, I had created 13 Marines lined up personally.”

This can be the first moment that Kristyl considered barbering like a future career-she concluded on charging $5 a haircut which could it have been. With a strong intrinsic motivation and entrepreneurial spirit, she worked overnight shifts on guard duty from 12a.m. to 8a.m., then cut hair during the days. What Kristyl learned was profound: Hairdressers touch more hearts than heads and each time you service complaintant, there’s impact.

The Impact of your Haircut
“As a Marine, the standards for appearance have reached an all-time high. The uniform needs to be squared away and ironed. Everything should be flush, measured properly-there’s a lot of attention to detail,” shares Kristyl. “I was taking a look at Marines from top to bottom. It tore up me because we’re the optimum people of this nation so we must be travelling as such. That’s the place that the impact produce and heart originated from, and I seriously considered in a position to transmit that through my hands to those around me…and you can keep them walk around feeling proud and good from head to toe, and representing this nation consequently.”

Similarities Operating: Military & Barbering
After getting back from service, Kristyl asked herself what the next challenge and chapter in their own life would be. That’s when she made a decision to pursue her education being a barber at Bellus Academy. Studying under her very own background and impatient, she found many similarities in her own service and being a barber.
