For many years I’ve been unable to catch this broadway tour in multiple cities. Something has always been in how. Between work, travel and everything else I always missed this show. In 2018 everything that changed. I needed the grand privilege of attending media night for the Lion King Musical at the Fabulous Fox Theatre. I used to be a young child if the movie premiered in theaters. My mother took my siblings and that i to what would be probably the most celebrated Disney Classics of all time. The broadway. The story was new for me personally but the message of hope was familiar. The songs like “The Circle of Life” and “Hakuna Matata” could be heard within our household for years to come. To find out my personal favorite childhood movie performed over a live stage with this most prestigious venue was obviously a dream be realized.
This production is very honestly the most visually entrancing theatrical presentation that I have ever seen. From a to z, my senses were thrilled. As the house lights dimmed, the drums started and it was showtime. Buyi Zama was outstanding as Rafiki. She was the comic relief throughout the show. Her costume separated itself and her performance was memorable.
Vibrant colors and abstract art laced the complete stage. The variation of Mufasa, as carried out by Gerald Ramsey, was riveting. I was so attracted to the headpiece that he wore. He was able to fling it around as if it absolutely was second nature. Clearly it was.
The dancing was simply captivating. It took me back to my days in the dance company. The performers executed choreography seamlessly while gliding on the stage with grace. I saw many ballerinas too. They are one of the hardest working teams I have ever witnessed on any platform.
Young Simba and Nala were remarkable performers. I really could tell they labored at their craft and understood blocking. It is crucial for young performers to understand the art. It should originate from an authentic place. I can’t have any idea them however was so proud.
Greg Jackson performed negligence Zazu. I kept a watchful eye on him whole time. He blew my head along with his quick wit while handling his puppet. I loved it!
Timon and Pumbaa were equally as I remembered them growing up. The rebel duo of the jungle. Their props were impressive. I could not help but to sing along with “Hakuna Matata”.
Mark Campbell totally a part of Scar far too well. His headpiece was fun to view too. The past scene with Mufasa continues to be difficult to watch. My heart sank as he fell to his death.
Adult Simba was played by Gerald Ceasar. His portrayal was noteworthy. There wasn’t any doubt which he was the true king.
Nia Holloway was extraordinary as Nala. From her costume towards the delivery of her lines, she was phenomenal. Not long ago i heard she attended school in Georgia. Yes, another budding star in the peach state!
Before long, I personally started to believe that these actors were real animals. Their movements were very similar to the animal kingdom. With their feathers, full mane and punctiliously crafted cloths this is an experience that you can only fully appreciate live.
Audiences were drawn in by what happened facing them, however it would not be possible without those behind the scenes. Experience has educated me in a lot in regards to the industry. Especially how vital background staff are. I applaud all the unseen heroes that helped to produce such a magnificent show a success. A output of this magnitude are few things with out them.
